THiNK Seminar: Dr Emily Nordmann

Designing an inclusive programme for the 'new normal'

The Keele Institute for Innovation and Teaching Excellence is pleased to announce the next THiNK Seminar:

Designing an inclusive programme for the 'new normal' with Dr Emily Nordmann, Glasgow University,  author of several highly impactful papers on lecture capture and pivoting teaching online during the covid-19 pandemic.
Dr Nordmann will discuss her recent work and publications on developing online education to have inclusivity at its core.

Dr Nordmann says:
'I am a teaching-focused Lecturer in the School of Psychology at the University of Glasgow. I teach research methods, individual differences, and #rstats. More generally, my expertise is in first year course design and leadership. I strongly believe in the principles of open science and strive to incorporate them into both my teaching and my research design. My research predominantly focuses on the relationship between technology and learning, in particular, lecture capture and how it can be used as an effective study tool and the impact on students from widening participation backgrounds. Since the disruption of COVID-19, my work has pivoted (pun intended) to supporting staff and students with a transition to online learning.

In this talk I will discuss how we have redesigned our psychology curriculum to have inclusivity at its core, from using lecture recordings to aid flexible engagement, explicitly teaching study strategies to reduce the hidden curriculum, ensuring resources are open-access, and ensuring that diverse identities are recognised and welcomed, and how this approach has impacted the work we have done to pivot our courses to online delivery for 2020-2021.'

The event will be hosted via our THiNK Microsft Team space. Dr Nordmann will be talking for approximately one hour and then taking questions from around 15:00. To attend this event, please join our MS Team channel.
