If you have an idea for a new business venture, this module provides you with the time, space and expertise to develop it.
What is an Entrepreneurship Year?
You will be offered space within the university's new incubator hub to develop your business idea and provided with a range of workshops and advice from experts who have successfully developed new business ventures. You will also have access to a network of entrepreneurs and business advisers to help you to utilise your time to full advantage.
The assessment for this module has been designed to support the development of your venture, with the development of a portfolio of evidence.
Places are limited on this module and you will be required to undertake an interview prior to acceptance.
Benefits of an Entrepreneurship Year
Some of the benefits include;
- Create an innovative business venture and critically evaluate its potential viability
- Demonstrate understanding of the barriers to start-up enterprise growth and success
- Apply strategic decisions to maximise the viability of the start-up
- Reflect on your own entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, behaviour and learning process
- Develop a wide range of graduate attributes
Am I eligible for the Entrepreneurship year?
The Entrepreneurship Year will be available for September 2020 onwards (for students who started Year 1 in September 2018) and will be an option between Years 2 and 3 of the programme. If you choose this opportunity you will not be allowed to do the international year or work placement year. You will be given a minimum of 30 weeks (full time work equivalent) and a maximum of 12 months in the incubator space.
Please note that if you require a study visa to undertake your programme of study in the UK (including Tier 4) you are not able to add in an entrepreneurship year due to UK Home Office (UKVI) restrictions. If you have existing immigration permission (visa) to be in the UK, you may be able to carry out entrepreneurship activities depending upon the specific conditions of your visa category. Further advice should be sought from the Immigration Compliance Team in this instance.
Tuition fees for the Entrepreneurship Year will be charged at 20% of the standard year fee (as is the case for the current work placement year).
