Biography

I joined Keele University after 6 years at Coventry University’s International Centre for Transformational Entrepreneurship. I have a PhD and MA from the University of Warwick focused on the British TV Industry. I am a lecturer in enterprise and innovation based in Keele Business School and I am a Senior Fellow of the HEA and Fellow of the International Enterprise Educators Programme (IEEP). Prior to this, I have over 20 years of experience in media education, sector development and business support. I taught at various Higher Education institutions and I have been an external examiner at Solent Southampton University, Staffs University and Plymouth College of Art. Previous roles include senior manager at Light House Media Centre and a SFEDI accredited business advisor. I also set up and ran PLOT which was a creative enterprise support project for businesses in the West Midlands and I set up and ran for 8 years, FLIP Animation Festival. During this time I developed and ran Kinetic Productions, a video production enterprise focusing on the voluntary and charitable sector and established a business consultancy which has supported over 150 start-ups.

Research and scholarship

My research interests include enterprise intention, entrepreneurial identity and enterprise education I have contributed to several high-quality conferences and publications, including the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research and the Institute for Small Business Research and Entrepreneurship.

Teaching

My teaching interests include creativity and innovation, design thinking, business start-up and feasibility, networking and business relationships.

I have two PhD completions and one current student.

Collaborations and grants awards

I am currently collaborating with Plymouth Marjon University and Birmingham University on an Enterprise Educators UK funded project exploring student entrepreneurial identity using novel data collection methods.
