Student Consultant of the Year 2018

Keele Management School’s ‘Student Consultant of the Year 2018’ has been awarded to Sam Lazenby, MSc Accounting and Finance student, at a special event last week.

The event marked the conclusion of this year’s Applied Company Research Project, which provides postgraduate students the opportunity to work with a business over ten weeks on a ‘real’ project. These work placements are a fantastic opportunity for postgraduate students to put into practice the theory they have been learning on their course. For the organisations involved, it is an excellent way for them to benefit from the knowledge and enthusiasm of bright, motivated students who can give a fresh perspective on a specific business matter.

Students go through a competitive application and interview process for the chance to work on one of the projects and This year students have been working in a variety of sectors including local government, marketing, graphic design, accessories, engineering and the charity sector.

At the awards event the three finalists gave presentations about their specific projects and the impact it has had on the business to an invited audience of businesses, Keele academics and fellow postgraduate students.

The three student finalists were:

  • Dante Holt, MA International Business, worked with Conker Living Ltd on marketing a new approach to user centred design project for spherical modular buildings.
  • Jomsy Kanivelli, MSc Accounting and Financial Management produced a business plan and feasibility study for a new incubator space in the town centre for Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council
  • Sam Lazenby, MSc Accounting and Financial Management, undertook a financial modelling project for housing charity Silito Housing who provide supported housing for vulnerable adults.

After presentations from the three finalists at the awards event, invited guests including Staffordshire companies, Keele University academics and fellow postgraduate students voted for the winner.
