Keele’s Research Institute for Science & Technology in Medicine is delighted at the results achieved in the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF2014).

ISTM’s submissions in applied biomedical research (to UoA3 Allied Health Professions) achieved a 42% score in world-leading 4* rating, and ISTM’s biomedical engineering research (UoA15 General Engineering) doubled its world leading 4* score. Both units achieved ~90% across the top two ratings 4* and 3*.

The world-leading research environment in ISTM was evidenced by the REF awarding scores of 87.5% and 100% in top ratings 4* and 3* in the two UoAs.

The results also show that research at Keele is having a genuine impact on the world around us: research impact case studies submitted to Allied Health Professions proved to be the best in the UK in terms of the proportion of impact rated as being world or internationally-leading.

Overall the REF results show that 97% of Keele University's research is classified as world leading and of international importance. The University also saw improvement in all 17 disciplines to which it made a submission. It confirmed that Keele has top rated research departments in all of its three Faculties: Health, Humanities and Social Sciences and Natural Sciences, and the REF results reveal the University's world class research activities across a wide spectrum of subject areas.
