Equality, Diversity & Inclusion in the ISTM

The ISTM has students and staff from all over the world and it is the Institute’s dynamic community that makes studying and working here a unique experience. Within this setting, the ISTM is committed to promoting inclusivity and equity, and to creating an environment of mutual respect and dignity. We pride ourselves on providing a welcoming academic atmosphere for students and staff alike and we endeavor to promote equality, diversity and inclusion across all sectors of our Institute.

As a leading example of an open and integrated community, Keele University's Institute for Science & Technology in Medicine strives to be a place where learning, living and working is a positive experience for all. The ISTM have 2 Committees on Equality, Diversity & Inclusion. The ISTM Athena SWAN Committee is committed to the principles of the Athena SWAN Charter and values equality and diversity across its workforce. The ISTM's Self-Assessment Team (SAT) co-ordinates and develops initiatives to address the underrepresentation of women in STEMM and support and encourage their career progression. The ISTM also has a new Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee with representatives from all levels of staff and students and is committed to to build an inclusive community, convening an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee for this purpose. This EDI Committee meets regularly to co-ordinate initiatives to improve the staff and student experience within the ISTM and welcomes input from students and staff.
