Santander Travel Bursaries

Funding available for Keele students and staff wanting to travel overseas

Through Keele’s partnership with Santander Universities, now in its 8th year, we are able to offer travel bursaries to support overseas travel and overseas projects undertaken by Keele students and academic staff.   Applications can be made to receive an award of up to a maximum of £1,000. Applications are invited for bursaries to support any overseas travel in 2017, but projects meeting one or more of the following criteria will be given preference:

Travel to undertake volunteering work

  • Travel to Latin America or other Spanish-speaking countries
  • Travel to other Santander Universities partner countries
  • Travel to develop new networks or projects with overseas partners
  • Travel to participate in an organised expedition

A minimum of half the awards will be reserved for student projects.

The application process is very simple: in no more than 500 words, describe the reasons you want to travel, the benefits you will gain as an individual (life experience, contribution to society, career development, overseas work experience, etc), how much you are applying for and what you intend to use the funds for.  Successful applicants will be required to write a short report on their use of the funds and the benefits they get from the travel/project, and will also be expected to attend a celebration event later this year to mark the success of Keele’s partnership with Santander Universities. While the application process is simple, we do need to remind applicants that the Santander schemes attract high levels of interest: consequently, this is a competitive process where applications will be measured against success in articulating responses to criteria above. The final outcomes will be determined by a panel of senior academics.

The closing date for applications is Friday 7th April, 5pm. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 5th May.  All applications should be sent to h.reidy@keele.ac.uk.
