Biography

Jane studied the flute at the Royal Northern College of Music with Kate Hill and Trevor Wye, and has played in masterclasses with Geoffrey Gilbert and William Bennett. She graduated in 1985, moving to Preston in Guild Year, 1992, where she lives with her husband and two children.

With several decades of teaching experience, she has a wide range of pupils from beginners to diploma students, teaching at Keele and Manchester Metropolitan Universities; Wolverhampton Grammar School and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School.

In 2014, Jane edited three pieces by Alphonse Catherine, writing both preface and performance notes which were awarded an Honourable Mention by the National Flute Association of America in their international competition for newly-published music.

Jane has given solo recitals at Manchester’s Whitworth Art Gallery and Royal Exchange Theatre, and at Liverpool’s Central Library. She has also performed at St George’s Church, Preston; Bury Parish Church and Holy Trinity, Warrington in their series of lunchtime concerts. She is the principal flute of Southport Orchestra, and plays on an Oston-Brannen flute with an Ian McLauchlan headjoint.
