James Sheard holds an MA in Creative Writing from Sheffield Hallam, and a PhD by Publication from Keele University.
He is the author of three full poetry collections with Jonathan Cape and two poetry pamphlets, as well as publications in a number of national literary publications.

His debut collection 'Scattering Eva' was shortlisted for both the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and the Glenn Dimplex Award. 'Dammtor' was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, and 'The Abandoned Settlements' was shortlisted for the T.S.Eliot Prize.

He is a creative partner with Deborah Alma in both the Emergency Poet and Poetry Pharmacy projects, which have attracted national and international attention in recent years.

I am currently Programme Director for the MA Creative Writing, and Discipline Lead for Creative Writing at Keele. I teach across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and supervise Dissertations in Poetry.

I co-supervise PhDs in Creative Writing where the main creative component is Poetry.
