Aniksha Dhamelia - May 2016

I am an international student from Kenya currently in my 3rd year on the BSc physiotherapy programme. It was a difficult transition coming all the way to the UK, but throughout the three years, I have always felt supported by the entire Keele Physiotherapy Team in the School of Health and Rehabilitation.

I was selected to go on an elective placement offered by Keele at Africa’s largest hospital – The Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. During my time there I had the opportunity to experience every aspect of Physiotherapy! I covered orthopaedics, trauma, amputees, outpatients, neurology, burns unit and ITU. The Physiotherapists at the hospital were fantastic and were very supportive throughout the placement.

The best part about South Africa was being able to use our wide knowledge base and alter our treatments with the different facilities and resources available in South Africa. This placement has enhanced my clinical skills and will contribute towards me becoming an autonomous qualified physiotherapist.

I thank the entire Physiotherapy team at Keele for making my time here, extremely wonderful!!!!!!
