The NHS is changing rapidly in response to social and political expectations and pressures as well as biomedical scientific development. A first qualification as a healthcare professional is merely the passport to a lifetime of learning and self-critical practice and this is recognised by the General Medical Council in its documents  “Tomorrow’s Doctors” and “Maintaining Good Medical Practice”. This distance learning module explores the nature of professional practice, using the paradigm of “The Reflective Practitioner”.

The module aims to develop critical self-awareness through analysis of and active reflection on personal clinical experience.

This distance learning module is open to practising health professionals with a first degree or equivalent.

The introductory session is followed by a series of meetings with a personal mentor and completion of a portfolio, including some prescribed elements.
