No one quitted despite the fact that some experienced grave difficulties in life.
I liaise with the teaching committee and I often get involved productive discussions for innovations in the methodology applied.

Ilaria Russo has over 15-years-long experience in studying malaria, a disease responsible for hundreds of thousand deaths per year. Her lab provides great contributions in cell biology, genetics and
biochemistry of Plasmodium falciparum, the deadliest strain causing malaria in humans. Well-known in the field of malaria for her seminal work and cutting-edge discoveries into malaria cell biology and pathology, her research aims to tackle these urgent unmet medical needs affecting a third of the world population with an important translational ethos. She is recognized as particularly technically skilled that granted her success in facing highly challenging tasks and projects that delivered hard-to achieve results and breakthrough discoveries. The field received from her important technological advancements due to elegant creativity in designing and validating new techniques. She is currently conducting cutting-edge research in new antimalarial drugs, discovery and validation of new targets, investigation of the cell cycle regulation and host-pathogen interaction. She is also operating in the RD of Congo in collaboration with two NGOs, where she has established the first diagnostic center in the region of Katanga, a quickly growing institute with strategical value for the WHO. Her skills, projects and research goals are now interconnecting with the high potential platform offered by the AchilleS’s OMVs and its team of world-wide famous and talented vaccinologists. This activity has recently won about 60milion Euros for 8 years from the EU Malaria fund for an innovative vaccine project for malaria, that will include her academic laboratory.
