Applied geophysics assists environmental crime investigations
A NEW paper, co-authored by Drs Jamie Pringle and Glenda Jones in GGE, has just been published in the Environmental Forensics Journal. This article is based on a study, funded by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, looking at a case of illegally dumped waste, in collaboration with Queens University Belfast colleagues.
A combined geodetic survey and electrical resistivity and GPR surveys both detected and characterised the waste. The perpetrator was convicted and made liable for the £250k clean-up costs. Please link to the paper here.
