The School of Geography, Geology and the Environment

We welcome students and staff to our friendly, open, and inclusive School and campus. Our programmes deal with topics ranging from the physical structure of the planet to the organisational structures of human activity. So whether you are interested in global environmental change, culture dynamics, or natural hazards and resources, our undergraduate and postgraduate courses offer you the opportunity to explore aspects of geography, geology, environmental science, sustainability, and natural sciences that most appeal to you. Our mission is to ensure that our research-led courses prepare students for careers that address the most significant challenges facing society today.

Our staff draw on their varied academic backgrounds, subject specialisms and research to provide you with expert support throughout your studies.

Our research develops three themes to advance sustainability science. These themes are sustainable places and societies; sustainable environments (natural and built) and sustainable energy and geo-resources.

Our research and teaching facilities include world-class laboratories, an extensive range of analytical instruments and our unique living lab.
