Dr Maria Flood, Lecturer in Film Studies, has received a British Academy grant of £10,000 for research on her project 'Radical Screens: The Making of the Terrorist'
Dr Flood's research will consider a number of contemporary filmmakers who depict the religious radicalisation of young people, including Mira Nair, Chris Morris, Hany Abu-Assad, and Abderrahmane Sissako.  The project examines intersectional factors in the process to radicalisation, including youth, gender, and sexuality, in order to foreground the affective motivations of perpetrators.
The project will result in a series of director interviews in London, Paris and New York, a monograph, and a public event held at Keele in 2019.
