Dr James Peacock, Senior Lecturer in English and American Literatures, launched his new monograph, Brooklyn Fictions: Contemporary Urban Community in a Global Age, in Keele Hall with the help of members of Keele Students' Drama Society.

Dr Peacock's project was funded by a prestigious AHRC Fellowship in 2013-14, which enabled him to travel to the US to interview several authors discussed in his monograph. The borough of Brooklyn, Peacock argues, has often been portrayed in literature as a place of traditional community values and face-to-face relations, distince from anonymous, capital-driven Manhatten. Brooklyn Fictions, however, discovers what such representations of the New York borough can teach us about diversity and the individual, the local and the global.
