As part of your course, you can enhance both your understanding and your employability by taking one of our Global Challenge Pathways (GCP).

If you elect to study a GCP you will follow it throughout the three years of your undergraduate programme, and you will be able to engage with a global issue or challenge which connects you directly to societal issues, working with staff and students from across the institution.

You will also be able to take part in research-driven and external-facing projects which address current controversies and debates.

Global Challenge Pathways give you the opportunity to:

  • Present your ideas and outputs to employers, organisations and communities
  • Build a powerful digital showcase to carry your learning and achievements with you
  • Link your studies to the UN Sustainable Development Goals

To receive the GCP certification you must complete all available years of the pathway. You cannot swap pathways once you have started. Although you can opt out of studying a GCP pathway at a higher level of study, you will then no longer be entitled to obtain GCP pathway certification.

This pathway will train you to teach English as a Foreign language and provide you with an additional, globally recognised English language teaching qualification.

This route leads to the Trinity College London Certificate in TESOL which means that you will get an additional, internationally recognised teaching qualification as well as your Keele degree. It's a lot of fun - you don't need to speak a foreign language and you get to work with Keele's international students as well as students from partner universities in Japan, and with asylum seekers and refugees through our contacts with local charities.

Keele has been running this programme for twenty years and our graduates have used this qualification to work in countries all over the world including Japan, Thailand, Italy, China, Brazil, Spain, and more.

Languages and Intercultural Awareness (Intercultural Explorer)

This pathway allows you to explore different cultures across the globe and gain an understanding of intercultural communication. Intercultural communication is a necessary part of today's world, whether in business, research, the media, or everyday life and it has been identified by both the UK Government and employers as a key transferable skill. We look at how language works in society, both within a specific culture and when these cultures interact. For example, you can examine international and intercultural business transactions, or look at how language can impact on diplomacy.
