Health and wellbeing projects

Health and wellbeing is a large part of sustainability as seen in the Sustainable Development Goal 3 'Good Health and Wellbeing'.

Keele University and KeeleSU joined forces to create a wellbeing challenge that explores environmental and social sustainability challenges facing the world.

Race Around The World

We've partnered with World Walking and created a route that takes in 29 milestone locations around the globe. Between the 1st October and 18th December 2020, students and staff were invited to form teams or join the Keele Staff and Student individuals teams and contribute to our collective challenge to travel 94,125.62km. Don't worry if you missed it the first time! The route can be completed at any time.

The distance can be travelled by any self propelled means, from walking, running or by wheelchair, to cycling, swimming, kayaking or on a spacehopper! Get creative, enjoy getting active and exploring the outdoors, and join our journey around the world.

Keep an eye out for walks and activities to join in with or organise your own, and watch the miles add up.

How do I join?

Simply click 'Start this Route' and make sure to count your steps. Keep track of your teams steps in a spreadsheet and remember to upload them to make progress on the route.

How much do I need to contribute?

It doesn't matter whether you just want to get a bit more active, enjoy exploring the Keele campus and local area, or whether you regularly do 5km runs or 20km bike rides - in the same way that the sustainability challenges our world is facing needs contributions from everyone, every step or km contributed will take us further on our journey around the globe.

What form of travel can I include?

We want to make the challenge as inclusive (and fun!) as possible. You could travel on foot, in a wheelchair, by bike, on water in a kayak or swimming, by horse, on a treadmill or rowing machine - get creative and enjoy trying new activities while adding to the distance travelled!
