Sustainability research

Across Keele's faculties and schools, a diverse range of research into sustainability challenges is being undertaken by lecturers, research fellows, PhD students, and post docs through the Institute for Sustainable Futures. Through Keele's Living Laboratories approach to embedding sustainability, our undergraduate and masters students also explore sustainability challenges linking their disciplines to campus operations through their dissertations and research projects.

The Institute for Sustainable Futures contributes to research, education and training that has positive impact on the long-term sustainability of our societies, environments and ecosystems across local to global scales.

The Smart Energy Network Demonstrator is an at scale environment providing a platform that allows energy generation, distribution, storage, forecasting and energy balancing to be intelligently carried out across different energy sources using the Keele University campus as a genuine 'living laboratory'.

HyDeploy is a pioneering energy demonstration to establish the potential for blending hydrogen, up to 20%, into the normal gas supply so that we can reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
