What you can do

  • Report all leaks that you see - the costs of leaving a dripping or leaking tap, even for a few days are high. contact your building's maintenance team, or the Estate Helpdesk. Telephone: 01782 733137 | Internal ext: 33137 | E-Mail: estates@keele.ac.uk
  • Only use the water you need and do not waste it. Don't overfill kettles or let taps run when they are not being used.
  • If you have lab equipment/practices that consume a lot of water please get in touch via sustainability@keele.ac.uk and we can review the potential to introduce more efficient equipment/practices.
  • Use the dual flush if your toilet has one.
  • Take a shorter shower which can use up to 20 litres per minute!
  • Put on a full load of washing, this reduces the number of clothes washes you have to do, saving you time and laundry costs too.
  • Put a bottle of tap water in the fridge so you have cold water instantly without the need for running the tap through.
  • Report dripping taps which can waste 15 litres of water a day.
  • Boil the amount of water you need when cooking food or making a drink.
  • Use a washing up bowl rather than under a running tap.
  • Try not to waste food, a lot of water is used in it’s production.
