What we have done

Keele University has been awarded ‘Go Ultra Low Company’ status, in recognition of our commitment to introducing Electric Vehicles (EV’s) to our fleet and availability of plug-in charge points for Electrical Vehicles commuting to campus.

Over the years we have implemented a number of initiatives to improve the availability and experience of alternative sustainable travel to campus including:

  • Development of excellent public transport links to and from the campus
  • Keele key bus ticket giving unlimited travel on both operators’ buses negating the need to buy multiple tickets
  • Staff bike purchase and student bike hire schemes
  • Car share schemes is currently suspended whilst a review is conducted.

Electric vehicles

We first started using an electric car as a pool vehicle all the way back in 2013! More than 25% of our fleet vehicles are now electric and as a result we now use half of the diesel and petrol that our vehicles were consuming five years ago. We are aiming to increase the number of electric vehicles in the near future.
