Interdisciplinarity in Action in the Liberal Arts

Liberal Arts is founded on the principle of interdisciplinary. That is, using and applying theories, methods, perspectives and approaches from a wide range of disciplines to synthesize new ways of thinking and understanding the interconnections and complexity of contemporary issues and problems. This talk will illustrate the liberal arts approach by considering the example of graffiti and street art as an increasingly universal example of contemporary urban culture that can only be understood and analysed by applying an interdisciplinary perspective. There will be a drop in session where staff will be available to talk to offer holders and their accompanying guests.

We like to think we're good people and because of this, we'll be able to help everyone with whom we're working. But what are our values and beliefs? Is it possible to avoid their having an impact on our practice? And what happens when we come across something that clashes with our own personal views? Can we still work effectively in those situations? This talk will introduce these core issues that are vital to effective social work practice.
