Sam Ivin & SU Crafternoons.

Settling - collage portrait workshop.

Creative online activity.

You are invited to take part in a striking collage self-portrait workshop session. Everyone will be encouraged to explore their unique experience of growing up, life journeys and their individual identity. You will do this by using your own personal images that are important to you.

Sam Ivin is a photographic artist who explores social issues and the people connected with them through collaborative projects. By documenting their stories and perspectives, he hopes to provide a more personal, tangible understanding of them. Sam will be touring his exhibition Settling to Keele University during Spring 2021. Settling explores the different stories of people who have moved to Stoke-on-Trent from around the world.

If you are interested in taking part in the FREE collage workshop with Sam you will need to do the following...

In preparation:
1. Share with us a portrait headshot (selfie on a blank background) which Sam can turn into a black and white image for you to collage onto. Please email your selfie to arts@keele.ac.uk. Alternatively, you can create your own using basic photo editing software. We recommend this is then printed off on A3 so there is space to create the collage. Example of selfie into black and white template…

2. You will also need 15 to 20 images or photographs of things that are important or mean something to you. These could be images of family, friends, specific memories, things you like, pets etc. You will need to print these off ready to cut up ready for the collage making session. We suggest x4 images per 1 A4 sheet (so 5 sheets of printing in total).

NOTE: if you need support creating your black and white portrait and / or with printing the images you will need to email all of the above to arts@keele.ac.uk by Monday 2 November 2020. Your print packs will then be left for collection at the SU on 5 & 6 November.

PLEASE NOTE: we will not keep copies of your photographs and will delete your files as soon as we have printed them out for you to use.

What you will need…
Scissors and a glue stick.
Optional: Pens & markers to write or draw on top of your portrait.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with an artist and all staff and students at Keele are free to join. We'll be meeting on Teams, the session is run in collaboration with SU Crafternoons. The link to join can be found on their webpages: https://keelesu.com/ents/event/5607/
