This module builds on the year 1 (Level 4) module: 'Area of Practice: Working with Adults'. It is designed to provide further underpinning knowledge of the experience and circumstances of adult service users and the service delivery context in which social work with adults takes place. The module will provide further development of knowledge focussing on legal frameworks, risk assessment, working with complexity and inter-professional practice. The module supports students to develop a critical appreciation of relevant concepts, research and to demonstrate more advanced scholarship. This module meets the requirements set by the professional and regulatory bodies.
Aims
This module builds on the Level 4 module: Area of Practice (1):Working with Adults. It is designed to provide further underpinning knowledge of the experience and circumstances of adult service users and the service delivery context in which social work with adults takes place. More specifically, the module aims to:Provide further underpinning knowledge, skills and values necessary to practice effective social work with adults. This will include: law; risk assessment, monitoring and review; working with adult service users who have complex needs and inter-agency working.Enable students to critically evaluate relevant concepts, current research and advanced scholarship, from a variety of disiplines that may impinge of their current practice.Further develop knowledge and critical awareness of current problems and new insights in relation to social work adults.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Essay weighted 60%Case analysis - 3,000 wordsProvide a 3000 word critical discussion relating to the case study provided during the module, linking policy and practice.
(Please note that students are required to pass both assessment 1 and 2).
2: Seen Case - Process weighted 40%A seen case exercise (2000 words)A seen case exercise of 2000 words. Students will be given a two week period from the release of the case study to the submission.
