Description for 2026/27

Speech and language therapists play a key role in helping support people with acquired and progressive cognitive-communication disorders, head and neck cancer, and voice disorders. This module aims to build upon content learned in year 2 of the programme and explore other acquired disorders. You will develop the knowledge and skills needed to assess and manage these conditions across the care pathway, you will learn how speech and language therapists work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and how these conditions impact the person themselves.

Aims
This module aims to develop students’ understanding of acquired and progressive cognitive-communication disorders, voice disorders, and head and neck cancer. Students will consider the nature and impact of the conditions, examine the psychosocial consequences for the person and relevant others, and explore evidence-based approaches to assessment and management.
