This module builds on content introduced in Year 1 of the programme and enables you to acquire the skills to collate and evaluate relevant evidence sources. Understanding research methodology, statistical tests, ethics and governance processes will enable you to judge the relevance of evidence to clinical and service delivery questions. The module aims to introduce basic statistical knowledge and understanding of statistical tests and procedures enabling you to interpret research articles and design a detailed clinical research project.
Aims
This module aims to provide apprentices with the opportunity to recognise and understand a range of research methodologies used in healthcare, particularly speech and language therapy. This module further aims to equip apprentices with the skills and knowledge required to search and critically evaluate published research and otherrelevant evidence sources.Additionally, the module aims to provide apprentices with opportunities to gain knowledge of research and statistics so that they can design a detailed proposal for a clinical research project and gain an understanding of relevant statistical principles and tests to understand the statistical issues described in research papers.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Formulate an effective search strategy to identify best evidence using health related databases.: 1Identify, summarise and present in a structured coherent manner, key information from research articles on a selected topic related to Speech and Language Therapy.: 1Distinguish between the strengths and weaknesses of different forms of evidence related to a selected topic in Speech and Language Therapy.: 1Report and interpret the results of statistical tests in a clinically meaningful way.: 2
