This module builds on the topics covered in Year 1, allowing you to consider the application of your previously acquired linguistic and phonetics knowledge to clinical data. The skills developed in this module will enable you to conduct accurate linguistic analysis of service users’ speech and language in order to inform management planning.
Aims
This module aims to provide apprentices with the knowledge and skills to gather a language sample and systematically evaluate it. A range of quantitative lexico-grammatical measures will be considered. Additionally, the module aims to provide apprentices with the opportunity to gain knowledge of narrative development and the skills to analyse both the micro and macro structure of a narrative.This module also aims to provide students with the opportunity to gain the skills to describe and accurately transcribe clinical speech data.
Intended Learning Outcomes
Conduct syntactic profiling of clinical language data to identify specific areas of syntactic strength and weaknesses.: 1Discern and coherently articulate, for a multi-disciplinary team, the grammatical strengths and weaknesses of a spoken narrative.: 1Analyse current approaches to intervention which aim to improve understanding and use of grammar.: 1
