This module allows you to build on the foundational clinical skills developed in the first year and develops your understanding of the processes of speech and language therapy practice through workshops using clinical cases. You will continue to develop the skills needed to present clinical cases, interpret assessment data and create management plans based on evidence-based practice. Practice placement is embedded within this module, and you will spend 6 weeks on clinical placement, developing your clinical skills.
Aims
This module aims to enable apprentices to consolidate clinical and theoretical learning and therefore practice asa safe speech and language therapist in health, education, and social care systems. Apprentices will be given the opportunity to use their skills, knowledge and the information available to them to make informed decisions. Additionally, the module aims to further develop apprentices’ communication skills, and refine their professional competences equipping them with the skills needed to work as a speech and language therapist.The module aims to give apprentices the opportunity to select appropriate assessments for clients and then record and analyse all responses from the chosen assessment being conducted.
Intended Learning Outcomes

Description of Module Assessment
1: Placement weighted 50%Placement based learning6-week practice placement block in which apprentices' knowledge, skills and professional behaviour is assessed by their practice educator using a criterion referenced form.
2: Presentation weighted 50%25 minute clinical presentationPresentation of a clinical case observed and/or worked with on practice placement. The presentation will be no longer than 20 minutes followed by 5 minutes of questions from an examiner.
