Presenting clinical cases, interpreting assessment data and creating management plans based on evidence-based practice is an essential part of being a speech and language therapist. This module allows you to build on the foundational clinical skills developed in the first year and develop your understanding of the processes of speech and language therapy practice through simulated learning sessions using clinical cases. Practice placement is embedded within this module and you will spend 5 weeks on clinical placement.
Aims
Through simulated learning sessions this module aims to enable students to consolidate clinical and theoretical learning and therefore practice as a safe speech and language therapist in health, education, and social care systems. Students will be given the opportunity to use their skills, knowledge and the information available to them to make informed decisions. Additionally, the module aims to further develop students’ communication skills, and refine their professional competences equipping them with the skills needed to work as a speech and language therapist.
