Speech and Language Therapists need to be able to carry out an accurate linguistic analysis of service users’ speech and language in order to inform management planning. This module builds on the topics covered in the articulatory phonetics, phonology and linguistics module in year 1 allowing you to consider the application of this knowledge to clinical data from both children and adults.
Aims
This module aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to gather a language sample and systematically evaluate it. A range of quantitative lexico-grammatical measures will be considered. Additionally, the module aims to provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge of narrative development and the skills to analyse both the micro and macros structure of narratives. This module also aims to provide students with the opportunity to gain the skills to describe and accurately transcribe clinical speech data.
Intended Learning Outcomes
