This module will provide you with knowledge regarding the anatomy, neuroanatomy and physiology involved in communication and eating, drinking and swallowing. This module provides you with core knowledge which underpins speech and language therapy practice and is essential for understanding clinical concepts relating to speech and language disorders.
Aims
This module aims to provide students with knowledge relating to the anatomy and physiology of key structures of the head, neck, and upper aerodigestive tract relevant to speech, language, hearing and swallowing. Students will gain an understanding of how these key structures allow us to communicate and swallow efficiently, as well as understand how a breakdown within these systems might impact our ability to communicate and swallow. This knowledge will provide the foundation for understanding clinical concepts related to speech, language and swallowing disorders.
