Description for 2026/27

This module introduces the professional standards and expectations of the HCPC and Society and College of Radiographers, focusing on professional behaviour, accountability, and patient-centred care. Students will explore effective communication, reflective practice, information governance, confidentiality, GDPR, and data protection within diagnostic radiography. The module also examines the principles of interprofessional education and collaborative working, supporting the development of the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for safe, effective, and professional radiographic practice.

Aims
This module aims to develop students’ understanding of professional, ethical, and collaborative practice within diagnostic radiography. Students will explore the professional standards and expectations of the HCPC and Society and College of Radiographers, including accountability, communication, information governance, and patient-centred care. The module also introduces reflective practice and interprofessional working to support professional development and the delivery of safe, effective healthcare.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Describe the professional standards and expectations set by the HCPC and Society and College of Radiographers, and explain how these guide professional behaviour, accountability and safe practice in diagnostic radiography.: 1
Identify the values and behaviours which align with the professional code of conduct expected of diagnostic radiographers, and describe how these support safe, respectful and patient-centred practice.: 1
Demonstrate effective professional communication across a range of radiography practice environments and reflect on own practice to identify strengths and areas for development.: 1
Identify how information governance, confidentiality, GDPR and data protection requirements influence practice in diagnostic radiography.: 1

Description of Module Assessment

1: Essay weighted 100%
Written essay of 1,500 words
A 1,500-word patient case study portfolio based on a routine diagnostic radiography scenario; the case scenario will be provided by the module team. The focus is your understanding of professional standards, professional behaviour, communication, confidentiality, information governance, interprofessional working and reflection in diagnostic radiography practice.
