Description for 2025/26

The Learning and Teaching in Healthcare module builds on content introduced in Year 1 & 2 of the MSci Physiotherapy programme and enables you to recognise and implement best practice in teaching to education in clinical practice.
You will have the opportunity to develop and evaluate a learning resource inspired from specific aspects of practice experience.
The module aims to prepare you to work in diverse settings whilst also developing transferable skills (such as giving and receiving effective feedback, recognising best practice in education, evaluating practice) that can be applied in a variety of healthcare settings and specialities.

Aims
This module aims to enable the students to evaluate approaches to Learning and Teaching and their application in their own development, the supporting of peers and the management of physiotherapy patients and to develop the skills to effectively and efficiently plan, deliver and evaluate education in a healthcare setting.

Study hours

Total active learning 30 hours
- 30 hours of In-situ teaching which may include lectures (~20), workshops (~4), seminars (~3), tutorials (~1) and 2 hours of assessment preparation classes.
120 hours of independent study
- includes 9 hours of protected time for students to meet following their teaching to apply content taught to their project (digital resource)
This module also offers the students the opportunity to observe and contribute to teaching on Level 4/Year 1 modules for a certificate and additional tutor feedback on their application of pedagogy.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Report weighted 80%
Individual Report 2000 words
Students submit an individual written report including: - 500 word micro-reflection of the performance of self and others in the group work component to assess the students ability to work in small groups. - 1500 word report on the development and justification of a learning resource after producing the resource as part of a small group activity (approx 4-8 students).

2: Group Assessment weighted 20%
Digital Learning resource
Students will work in small groups to create a digital learning resource. The topic for the resource is agreed within the group. The resource's intended population can be patients or student physiotherapists
