Description for 2025/26

Exercises are used by the physiotherapists in managing various conditions, utilising face-to-face and digital skills to deliver these exercise programmes. In this module you learn to design a safe, effective and evidence-based exercise programmes for service users. You will learn to use appropriate digital skills in addition to summarising underpinning guidelines and evidence for these exercise programmes.

Aims
This module aims to enhance student ability to prescribe evidence-based exercises for service users. The module aims to enable students to design safe, effective and evidence-based exercise programmes, including application of coaching skills. for individuals with a variety of clinical diagnoses through appraisal of the related literature.

Intended Learning Outcomes

describe and apply the key principles of exercise prescription linked to Physiotherapy assessment: 1,2
develop and apply coaching skills to deliver exercise for individuals and groups of service users: 1
synthesise underpinning knowledge and rationale to prescribe and adapt appropriate exercise dosage for a range of populations: 2
identify and summarise evidence underpinning exercise prescription: 2

Description of Module Assessment

1: Group Assessment weighted 40%
Students in their small group (4-6 students) will create an electronic resource on exercise programme.
The students will create an electronic resource (e.g., video) demonstrating an exercise programme for the population/s in the given scenario in their small group (4-6 students). They must explain the rationale behind the programme in lay language and demonstrate coaching skills in their resource. The programme should include immediate exercise plan and progression within the next 1-3 months. The duration of the resource should be around 10-15 minutes including the interactions.

2: Report weighted 60%
1500 word written report (individual report)
Student will provide the rationale of exercise prescription they have created, summarise two full text articles related the evidence behind the exercise/s, and identify the underpinning guideline/s for their exercise prescription.
