Want to make a difference to the world in which you live, and the communities around you? Developing inclusive research practices, and being able to represent the voices of marginalised groups, is critical to changing society and politics! This module will equip you with the skills you need to critique mainstream and popular thinking, and to implement positive change.You will learn about practical research methods and how to critique and improve them. You'll engage in active learning and discussion, through journal clubs and workshops to develop both your thinking and your practical skills. By the end of the module, you will be confident in researching important issues in a way that represents diverse communities.
Aims
This module aims to develop a critical awareness of how research knowledge is generated, and how structural inequalities are created and reinforced by research norms and practices. In this context, students knowledge and skills in designing, analysing, and evaluating applied social and political psychological research will be developed to an advanced level.

Description of Module Assessment
1: Oral Presentation weighted 30%15 minute oral presentationStudents are asked to give a 10 minute presentation (plus 5 mins Q&A) applying key critical lenses and offering suggestions for improvement to a specific piece of applied social and political psychological research
2: Report weighted 70%Structured report on research processes (2500 words)Students will respond to a pro forma requiring reflections on the inclusive design of a research process, analysis of a prescribed data set, and draw conclusions and recommendations for future research in the light of their findings and critical theoretical lenses.
