Description for 2026/27

This practical module has been developed to give you an introduction to psychological approaches to coaching in work and organisational settings, in addition to an opportunity to develop and practice coaching skills.
Throughout the module, you will be introduced to the basics of business-based psychological coaching and have an opportunity to practice coaching. Through workshops, discussions, debates, peer observation and practical activities. You will also have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with assessment and measurement methods used in coaching (for example psychometric tests), and a range of useful techniques such as goal-setting theory, scaling questions, value exercises and other methods.
Participation in this module and successful completion of the assignments could lead to fulfilling the requirements for a CPD certificate by the end of the module (for example, the BPS Assistant Test User (occupational) qualification).

Aims
This is a practical module that aims to help you develop a range of core skills used in business psychology coaching. The module introduces a range of techniques and gives you an opportunity to practice these skills in a safe environment through discussions, debates and practical role plays.
