Description for 2024/25

Aims
This module aims to provide students with a focused examination of practices and challenges in post-conflict development. Using in-depth case studies, students will study how post-conflict reconstruction and post-conflict development are situated within the broader development context - both practically and conceptually. Through this, students will also study how understandings of and approaches to post-conflict reconstruction and development have evolved. Through examination of contemporary cases of post-conflict development, students will gain understanding of varied approaches to development and development needs, and varied ways in which security and development intersect. This enables them to analyse and reflect on development practice in a range of international settings. Methodologically, students will engage with varied data sources, including databases, archives, government/IGO/NGO reports, development measures and field reports to enable them to analyse the conduct, practices, and outcomes of post-conflict development interventions. The module will also practically engage in the creation of a post-conflict development plan to enable students to understand the intricacies and multifaceted factors involved in finding solutions to problems of development.
