Description for 2024/25

This module is relevant to healthcare professionals who want to develop an understanding of the principles of research, the appropriate use of methodological approaches, and to understand how selected methods may be applied to researching practice.

Aims
This module will introduce participants to the principles of research, the appropriate use of methodological approaches and to enable them to understand how selected methods may be applied to researching and evaluating practice.

Study hours

6 hours will be online tutorials and up to another 24 hours may be other structured distance learning activities including blogs and interactive discussion forums.
120 hours - open and distance learning, including reading around their chosen area of focus, researching ideas for a research question, designing and developing ideas for researching the answer to chosen research questions.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Research Proposal weighted 100%
4,000 word essay
Develop a proposal for a clinical education research project. This should include some brief background literature (a full literature review is not required), a reasoned critical analysis of your choice of theoretical perspective, a clear research aim or question and a description of proposed: ethical implications, sampling and recruitment, data collection, analysis and anticipated outcomes. (Maximum 4,000 words) excluding appendices.
