Education supervision is a requirement by professional regulatory bodies and the Department of Health to provide guidance and feedback on matters of professional and educational development in the context of a trainee¿s experience of providing safe and appropriate patient care. This module allows the learners to gain the knowledge and skills that are essential to become effective educational supervisors.
Aims
The module aims to: - Enhance the learners¿ knowledge and skills on educational supervision in a range of clinical and educational contexts- Enhance the learners¿ feedback skills by exploring different feedback models from literature and using different methods to support those skills
Intended Learning Outcomes

This module will be delivered as a distance learning module therefore the total required hours will be independent study hours as they work through the module content and learner activities.Orientation and reading in preparation for the module: 10 hoursIndependent Study: 80 hoursAssignment preparation and submission: 60 hours
Description of Module Assessment
1: Essay weighted 80%Summative assessment of academic writingThe learner will use the current literature to critically evaluate the roles and responsibilities of educational supervisor in supporting and monitoring the student¿s educational progress. The learner will address the knowledge and skills that are required to enhance the effectiveness of educational supervision. The challenges to the role will be discussed and addressed. This is a written submission of maximum 2000 words.
2: Reflective Diary weighted 20%Reflective writingThe learners will provide a reflective summary of their supervision experiences covering a variety of issues. The learners will identify the learning points and use their experience in the developing their educational supervision skills. This is a written submission of 1000 words.
