Description for 2025/26

This module forms part of the MSc Occupational Therapy (pre-registration) programme at Keele which is an innovative programme of study which prepares the graduate for diverse practice settings.
Within this module you will have opportunities to participate in, practically facilitate and critically appraise and justify a range of specialist and diverse occupation focused interventions for example splinting, wheelchair provision and pressure care, group work, vocational rehabilitation. Risk management, risk enablement and health and safety are key aspects of this module.

Aims
This module focuses on the diversity of occupation focused interventions in contemporary occupational therapy practice. Students will have the opportunity to plan, justify, facilitate, participate and evaluate occupation focused interventions.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Practice Based Assessment weighted 60%
Students will plan, risk assess and practically facilitate a 30 minute occupation focused group intervention.
Tutor will provide students with general characteristics of a simulated client group. Students are required to individually: plan and facilitate an occupation focused intervention, tailored to the requirements of their allocated (simulated) group. provide their individual risk assessment and a resource / equipment list 1 week prior to their facilitation of the group intervention. present their justification (orally) for the intervention using professional reasoning theory (no more than 5 minutes) immediately prior to facilitating the group intervention. The presentation will be supported with audio visual materials.

2: Assignment weighted 40%
A 750 word critical evaluation of an individually facilitated occupation focused intervention
This assignment is a critical evaluation following the individually facilitated occupation focussed group intervention including a synthesis of current literature.
