Description for 2025/26

This module forms part of the MSc Occupational Therapy (pre-registration) programme at Keele which is an innovative programme of study which prepares the graduate for diverse practice settings.
This module will introduce you to the history and evolution of the occupational therapy profession, and will include key concepts, philosophy, values and beliefs. You will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of the dynamic relationship between occupation, health and wellbeing and critically review the occupational therapy process.

Aims
This module aims to introduce students to the core concepts of occupational therapy, theory and practice. Students will develop an understanding of the dynamic relationship between occupation, health and wellbeing. They will gain an understanding of the occupational therapy process in preparation for placement.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Presentation weighted 60%
20 minute power-point presentation with 5 minutes of questioning
This power-point presentation requires the student to critically review the history, evolution and unique contribution of occupational therapy practice. The presentation should include a critical evaluation of core concepts underpinning occupation centred practice and the occupational therapy process.

2: Reflective Diary weighted 40%
A 1000 word self reflection, using a reflective model.
A reflection on self as an occupational being, to include a critical evaluation of the dynamic relationship between occupation, health and wellbeing, based on a personal example.
