Description for 2024/25

This module forms part of the MSc Occupational Therapy (pre-registration) programme at Keele which is an innovative programme of study which prepares the graduate for diverse practice settings.
The Research Proposal module allows students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in justifying and designing a comprehensive plan for a research project under the guidance of a supervisor.

Aims
To develop students' knowledge and skills in:
- identifying and formulating a research design to answer a specific research question, including methods of data/information collection and analysis;
- presenting a scientifically and/or professionally coherent justification for a proposed research project;
- evaluating the ethical requirements of a proposed research project.

Intended Learning Outcomes

present a framework of reference (such as a rationale based on published literature) to demonstrate the relevance of a proposed research question, critical thinking and high levels of concise written communication.: 1
select and present appropriate and comprehensive methods of gathering data or information that are coherent with the research question.: 1

Study hours

30 tutor led active learning hours to include:
~ 10 lectures,
~ 8 hours workshops,
~ 10 hours of seminars and tutorials
~ 2 hours of assessment preparation classes
120 hours of independent study for preparation of research proposal.
