Description for 2025/26

This module forms part of the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy apprenticeship programme at Keele University.
This module focuses on the development of effective communication and interpersonal skills that are essential for a health and social care professional.

Aims
This module aims to support learners to develop effective communication and interpersonal skills for occupational therapy practice. The module will also enable learners to understand how the therapeutic use of self influences the therapeutic relationship.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Study hours

50 active learning hours to include:
~ 12 hours of synchronous interactive lectures
~ 3 hours of asynchronous lectures
~ 10 hours synchronous workshops,
~ 3 hours synchronous seminars and tutorials
~ 2 hours of synchronous assessment preparation classes
~ 20 hours of guided independent study (asynchronous)
100 hours of independent study

1: Viva weighted 100%
10 minute communication viva with a simulated service user.
