This practice-focused module provides a structured and comprehensive overview of heart failure pathophysiology, diagnosis and management for practitioners working with heart failure patients. It will equip practitioners who provide clinical care for patients with heart failure with the skills, knowledge and understanding to more effectively manage this condition. The module is designed to augment, enhance and focus the practitioners skills on the holistic care of the complexity of a heart failure diagnosis. The use of an online learning approach will be adopted which utilises focused lectures, skills teaching and practice, workshops, along with the clinical practice setting. This multifaceted approach provides opportunities to develop knowledge and skills. Linking the practitioner with an appropriate clinical mentor will assist in the acquisition of skills pertinent to the individual needs of the student.

A blended learning strategy has been adopted to address the learning needs of a variety of students and make efficient use of renewable resources:Direct tutor contact will build on pre-session work utilising a range of approaches including lectures, discussions, on-line learning, student-led seminars, workshops and personal tutorial time (120 hours).Independent study in the form of pre-session preparation and theoretical preparation for clinical assessment and assignments (40 hours)Clinical practice and assessment preparation (140 hours)
