Aims
This module focuses on the current models of care and principles of care provision in the perinatal period and explores the role of the midwife in identifying the woman¿s physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs and the provision of woman centred care.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Oral Exam weighted 50%
A 10 minute interaction with a simulated patient
This interactive examination will take place in a simulated environment. The assessment will require the student to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, utilising underpinning theory. 10 minutes will be allocated to complete the scenario with 5 minutes for structured questions following. Peer review will be completed following this scenario. This is a formative strand to the assessment. The feedback gained from their peers will assist the students in developing the summative reflective essay.

2: Essay weighted 50%
1,500 word reflective account
A written reflection of 1,500 words will be submitted based on the scenario with the simulated patient. The students will be expected to reflect on learning that has occurred in relation to their communication skills through undertaking the simulated interaction and peer feedback.
