Prerequisites

This module aims to give students a detailed understanding of the medical equipment lifecycle and its management to control risks under clinical governance; to allow them to gain an understanding of the important role of reliability and maintainability engineering in the management of risk, especially of safety critical systems; to understand the application of standards and regulations relating to medical equipment and management; and to understand the role of healthcare professionals in the safe use and care of medical equipment and the provision / management of safe and effective medical technology services.

Description for 2024/25

This module will give students insight into the technology management processes used
in clinical settings that allow healthcare provider to make the best use of their
resources. They will learn about the role of clinical engineers in ensuring the safe and
effective management of medical equipment and the benefits and obligations of the
various stakeholders operating within the clinical governance framework.
