Description for 2022/23

This module studies results and techniques concerning analytic functions of a complex variable. The module initially builds upon the material on conformal transformations and harmonic functions presented in Level 6 Complex Variable II. Many of the results concerning analytic functions are elegant and have far reaching applications both in pure and applied mathematics. The areas covered will include conformal transformations, analytic continuation, infinite products and elliptic functions.

Aims
The aim of this module is to present various important techniques and results concerning analytic functions of a complex variable. The theory of analytic functions contains many elegant results which have far reaching applications in both pure and applied mathematics.

Intended Learning Outcomes

state clearly the key definitions and theorems covered in the module: apply the results, theorems and techniques concerning analytic functions of a complex variable covered in the module: derive the results and prove the theorems concerning analytic functions of a complex variable covered in the module:

Description of Module Assessment

1: Exam weighted 100%
3 hour examination
A closed book examination assessing students' fluency in the concepts and ideas introduced in the module and their ability to apply these ideas to solve "seen similar" and unseen problems.
