Aims
This module aims to introduce both theoretical and practical concepts of managing a small to medium enterprise (SME). It focuses on the different challenges encountered by smaller organisations, for example, limited resources. The module is intended to give the students an insight into the realities of working within an SME through working with local SMEs on a 'live project'.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Group Presentation weighted 20%
Group presentation outlining a proposed solution
In groups present a proposed solution for the problem posed by the small or medium enterprise (SME). The presentation will be 20 mins presentation plus 5-10 minutes for Q&A and discussion. There will be an overall group mark for this assessment but individual group member marks will be calculated through peer review.

2: Report weighted 80%
Individual project report (4,000 words)
Students will work on a project solution in groups but will be required to provide an individual report of approximately 4000 words outlining: Rationale for the project Literature review providing theoretical underpinning to the project Critical evaluation of problem solving techniques and critical review of approach taken on the project Evaluation of the proposed solution, the limitations and practicalities of the solution Reflection on the student's role and impact during the project
