Description for 2026/27

There is more to the Sport and Leisure industry that we see when we attend these experiences. For instance, whether it is understanding the societal and economic benefits of an event, how sport is becoming more sustainable or how tourism is constantly changing, you will get a holistic view of leisure and sport. Understanding the nature and characteristics of the different sectors comprising the Sport and Leisure industry provides you with the context to understand management issues facing companies and organisations in this important industry. In this module you will challenge the role of sport and leisure on society, the issues they face on a daily basis and offer appropriate solutions.

Aims
This module aims to provide students with knowledge and insight of the different sectors in the Leisure, Events, Hospitality and Tourism (LEHT) industry. It focusses on the importance and nature of each specific sector to the economy, culture and society of a nation and the interconnectedness of each sector. The student will be able to understand the historical development of the Leisure, Events, Hospitality and Tourism (LEHT) industry and be able to identify critical issues relating to the management of companies and organisations in the industry.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Presentation weighted 40%
Individual Industry Presentation
Individual Industry Presentation (10 mins) - students will select an specific industry relevant to their award and analyse the drivers of the sector and identify key marketing and management issues that face the sector.

2: Report weighted 60%
Individual Sector Report
Students will draft a report conceptualising the role of society on their chosen leisure sector and vice versa, placing their discussion both a historical and contemporary context (2000 words)
