Description for 2024/25

This module will introduce students to the context and operations of the U.K. tax system. It will include developing knowledge of V.A.T. and National Insurance contributions and the preparation of income tax, chargeable gains and corporation tax computations, and tax planning. It will prepare students for further studies in accounting and it will also provide transferable skills. It aims to develop a number of graduate attributes including problem solving, research skills, critical evaluation, teamwork and leadership skills. It aims to develop knowledge and skills to obtain exemptions from professional accounting examinations.

Description of Module Assessment

1: Exam weighted 60%
2 hour examination
Examination (Exam): An opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and/or understanding under invigilated conditions (typically 2 hours). All examinations should take place on campus. Examination will be scheduled centrally by Student Records and Exams.

2: Exam weighted 40%
Computer based assessment (mid term) - time constrained and invigilated - 1.5hrs
Mid Term computer based assessment - a 90 minutes computer-based test to be undertaken in a controlled environment, timed and invigilated. Automatic submission at the end of the allocated 90 minutes.
